The Argentine Fernando Ortiz, coach of the Mexican soccer team, assured this Wednesday that he is not worried about the lack of aim that his team showed in the 1-0 win over Toluca.
“I would be worried if we hadn’t created so many opportunities, then I would be on alert, but today we tried from above, below, from long and short distance and in the end we managed to win”, said the coach at the end of the duel on date three of the Apertura.
América dominated Toluca in the first half, but was not fine in the definition; the visitor suffered the expulsion of the Chilean Claudio Baeza. In the second half the Eagles advanced lines and scored thanks to Paraguayan Richard Sánchez in the last minute.
It was the first win for Ortiz’s team; he tied on the opening day with the champion Atlas and on date two he lost 3-2 at Monterrey’s home, duels in which the strategist stressed that they should have obtained better results.
“The three games we’ve played we’ve deserved more for the chances we created. Today the result is due to the fact that we insist a lot, Suddenly we don’t find the framework, but we generate many options and we get the reward”, he pointed out.
Fernando Ortiz pointed out that the important thing at this start of the tournament is that those they lead have not lost the identity that has been established for them, which is to attack.
“As a big team we always have to go forward, regardless of criticism or what is going on outside, the important thing is to go forward and win. I have a staff committed to the coaching staff. Everyone has given in and that makes me proud”.
The Eagles advanced this duel against Toluca, which should have been played over the weekend, for the three international friendly matches that will dispute in the United States
Two of them will be against Premier League teams, the first will be this Saturday against Chelsea, the second on July 20 with Manchester City of the Spanish Pep Guardiola and the third will be on July 26 against the champion of the Champions League, Real Madrid.
On the fourth day of Apertura 2022, América will visit Tijuana on July 23.
