Two people died this Monday morning, May 29, and five were wounded after a shooting in a commercial area located south of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, in the north of the country. According to the first reports, the shooting occurred minutes before 7:00 a.m. at the nightclub “Distrito F” on Estado Avenue in the Tecnológico neighborhood, where elements of different corporations went.
The body of one of the deceased was found by the officers lying on the sidewalk, while the second was found inside the establishment. Preliminary information indicates that they are a woman and a man of approximately 25 years of age who have not yet been identified.
The injured, including three women, were taken to different medical units in the state.
Some 13 units of the Monterrey police were on the scene, acting as first responders, although this is a sector that corresponds to the Coordination of the Civil Force.
According to witnesses, those responsible for the aggression were traveling in a black Volkswagen Passat, which they escaped after committing it with firearms. The officers searched the area to locate the perpetrators, but no arrests have been reported.
The area where the attack occurred is in a sector with many businesses, mainly restaurants and bars. Nearby is also Eugenio Garza Sada Avenue and the Tecnológico de Monterrey. The section between Filósofos and Agrónomos streets was closed for forensic work, which caused traffic chaos.
The State Investigation Agency and the Forensic Services arrived at the site to begin the corresponding investigations.

The state of Nuevo Leon registered an increase in intentional homicides at the end of 2022, according to statistics from the State Attorney General’s Office. According to the report, August was the month with the most reports of violent deaths, registering 163, while March was the month with the lowest number of cases (88).

In the metropolitan area, the municipality of Juarez had the highest number of homicides. It was followed by Escobedo, Monterrey, Santa Catarina and Apodaca.
According to the daily report of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), in the last week, Nuevo León recorded 18 intentional homicides.
On a national level, the number of intentional homicides in Mexico rose by 6.43% annually last January to 2,582 murders, an average of more than 83 per day, according to the SSPC.
Despite the uptick, SSPC head Rosa Icela Rodríguezargued that the figure is 16% lower than the all-time high of 3,74 homicides in July 2018.
“The trend remains downward. In the victims of intentional homicide, there is a significant decrease compared to previous years,” said the secretary from the National Palace.
The official affirmed that homicides decreased by 10.8% in the six-year term of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) compared to the end of former President Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018).
Rodriguez exposed that six states concentrate almost half of the homicides: the States of Mexico, Guanajuato, Baja California, Chihuahua, Jalisco, and Guerrero.
