Two die and five wounded in early morning shooting at Monterrey nightclub Distrito F

Nuevo Leon's surging violence adds a grim morning to Monterrey, casting a cloud over the city's popular nightlife scene.

Two people died this Monday morning, May 29, and five were wounded after a shooting in a commercial area located south of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, in the north of the country. According to the first reports, the shooting occurred minutes before 7:00 a.m. at the nightclub “Distrito F” on Estado Avenue in the Tecnológico neighborhood, where elements of different corporations went.

The body of one of the deceased was found by the officers lying on the sidewalk, while the second was found inside the establishment. Preliminary information indicates that they are a woman and a man of approximately 25 years of age who have not yet been identified.

The injured, including three women, were taken to different medical units in the state.

Some 13 units of the Monterrey police were on the scene, acting as first responders, although this is a sector that corresponds to the Coordination of the Civil Force.

According to witnesses, those responsible for the aggression were traveling in a black Volkswagen Passat, which they escaped after committing it with firearms. The officers searched the area to locate the perpetrators, but no arrests have been reported.

The area where the attack occurred is in a sector with many businesses, mainly restaurants and bars. Nearby is also Eugenio Garza Sada Avenue and the Tecnológico de Monterrey. The section between Filósofos and Agrónomos streets was closed for forensic work, which caused traffic chaos.

The State Investigation Agency and the Forensic Services arrived at the site to begin the corresponding investigations.
