Last Saturday night, just as a quinceañera and her chambelanes were dancing in a party hall located in the community of Mexicanos, in the municipality of Villagrán, in Guanajuato, hitmen from the Jalisco Cartel – New Generation (CJNG) broke into the hall and opened fire.
A 26-second video recorded the moment of the attack. According to the investigation, the assailants went after the party organizer. It was an attack against a rival criminal organization: the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel.
The disc jockey hosting the party lost his life due to the shots, and four other people were wounded. It was around 8:00 p.m. that the group of men arrived at Fiestas Cesar’s, located on Avenida del Correo 2.
In videos shared on social networks, what happened transcended. One of the birthday girl’s family members recorded a live video on Facebook. In the scene, you can see the quinceañera dancing with her chambelanes. In the background, the song “La Mordidita” by Ricky Martin was playing.
The mood of the party was centered on the steps of the celebrant when suddenly, the sound of multiple gunshots broke the joy.
At first, there seemed to be confusion. Later, terror was unleashed inside the hall. At the end of the transmission, only more detonations could be heard, as well as some screams.
It should be noted that in 2023, the entity governed by Diego Sinhue Rodriguez was one of the most violent in the country. From January to March, there have been 810 alleged homicides, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National System of Public Security, which led it to position itself as the entity with the highest number of cases in the first quarter of the year.

Violence in villagrán
The municipality of Villagrán is located at the headquarters of the 16th Military Zone, but this has not been enough to stop the violence from running unchecked in the area.
On the night of Sunday, April 9, while several families were enjoying a dance in the main garden of the town’s main square, four armed men advanced toward the center of the square and shot their target.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was left lying in front of the stage where a musical group was playing. He had been shot twice in the head and once in the neck. Because of the number of people and the high volume of the music, practically “nobody noticed” until some people began to shout.
On the same night, two more men were executed in the community of Mexicanos, one inside a house and the other in the middle of the street.
On March 25, another CJNG attack left four dead in the same community, specifically on Aldama and 16 de Septiembre streets. On the same day, another person was killed at the entrance to the town on a dirt road.
Last December, a convoy stopped in front of a multi-family building in the El Rehilete subdivision in Villagrán. The assassins exited the vehicles and began shooting at the facade, firing at least 100 shots.
