Known worldwide for being the founder of the Off-White brand and leading Louis Vuitton’s men’s collections, Virgil Abloh died at the age of 41 this Sunday, November 28, due to cancer that he suffered years ago.

On the designer’s Instagram account, his family left a long message in which they pay tribute to “a devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend.” “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Gray Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues, ”they add.

In the text, his family explains that “for more than two years, VirgilHe fought valiantly against a rare and aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. She has chosen to endure her battle in private since her diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, while running several major institutions spanning fashion, art and culture.”

His family said that despite everything, “his work ethic, his endless curiosity and his optimism never wavered.” And they added: “Virgil was driven by his dedication to his craft and his mission to open doors to others and create pathways for greater equality in art and design.”
