Anand Singh, a Westchester (NY) legislative aide, was fired and arrested after allegedly being caught on video attempting to meet with an underage girl.
Singh, 33, worked for the Westchester County Board of Legislators and was flirting with a teenage girl who told him she was 14, according to a criminal complaint. He allegedly sent her lewd and suggestive messages through the dating app Hily since December 2022.
“Young girls rock my world,” Singh wrote, according to a federal complaint. But the “underage” girl turned out to be an undercover adult member of the vigilante group “OBL Global,” FBI agent Erica Buoncore wrote in an affidavit, the Daily News reported.
“Daddy is ready to pop,” Singh tweeted before a hookup meeting he had arranged with the phantom teen, according to court documents. He also suggested to the decoy that they should go to a motel, among other sexually explicit messages, the feds said.
When Singh showed up, an OBL Global member confronted and videotaped him, prompting him to retreat to his car and flee, according to the federal complaint.
OBL turned the evidence over to the FBI, which used the video and text messages to investigate. Singh was fired from his government job on April 13 when the video came out, the New York Post noted.
Singh was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of attempted enticement of a minor. He would face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted. “Today’s arrest is a reminder of the inherent danger the Internet could pose to our young people and the critical importance of protecting them from online predators,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said yesterday in a statement.
All charges are mere accusations, and those indicted are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
