Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, assured this Friday that he wants Bernardo Silva to continue in the English clubcurrent Premier champion, but acknowledged that he does not know what will happen to the Portuguese player, wanted by FC Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain, among others.
During the press conference prior to the start of the English league this weekend, the Spanish coach pointed out that, “sometimes the paths separate”, after being asked about the departures of several heavyweights this summer and, specifically, by the possible departure of Silva.
“The player’s desire, above all, is the most important thing. Of course I would love that Bernardo is still here, he is a special footballer for us. But I don’t know what’s going to happen.” Guardiola agreed.
The Catalan coach philosophically faces the possible departure of the Portuguese midfielder “because football is like that”, he said, and because in these situations “the player’s desire” rules.
“I will not be the one who stops a person’s desire. The life of a soccer player is so short, without realizing it, it’s almost over. The player will have to sit down and talk to the club and I have never been involved in that”, explained Guardiola.
Although Silva is now associated with various European clubs, with Barça at the head of the bidding, the “citizen” coach stressed that he has no knowledge that a specific offer has yet arrived: “Nothing. Neither did last season,” he added.
“Bernardo is ready, he is trained very well and he is ready for Sunday. That is all”settled Guardiola, in reference to the first league game that City will play in London against West Ham United.
Manchester City debuts on Sunday, August 7 against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium where they recently won the title of Premier League champions. Led by Erling Haaland and Julián Álvarez, the citizens hope to start the British tournament on the right foot in a fight that will be against Liverpool, as in past editions.
