Young Latino police officer died after two months hospitalized: fatality 64 due to coronavirus in NYPD

Daniel Sanchez, a 15-year NYPD officer, died of complications from COVID-19 on Staten Island yesterday.

Sanchez became the 64th member of the nation’s largest police force (NYPD) to die from the coronavirus since 2020, officials said.

Officer Sanchez was 47 years old and passed away around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond University Medical Center from a COVID-related illness, according to New York Post. He was assigned to the Highway Unit #5 and had been hospitalized on November 22.

Sanchez joined the department in 2007 and was assigned to the Highway District in 2015. New NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced the death on her Twitter account at noon yesterday.
