Young man shot dead inside an LIRR train en route to New York: armed violence without respite

A 20-year-old man was fatally shot aboard a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train in Ronkonkoma this morning, which was to depart en route to New York City.

The deceased was identified as Yusef Staine of West Babylon. He was shot around 1:45 a.m. on a stopped train, ready to go to penn station in manhattansaid an MTA police spokesman. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The gunman fled the scene, according to the Department of Suffolk County Police. Authorities did not provide details on the suspect’s identity.

The train trip where the shooting occurred was cancelled, as was another eastbound in Central Islip that was headed to Ronkonkoma. LIRR is the largest commuter transit system in the country.

MTA police and Suffolk County police are conducting a joint investigation into the homicide. The motive for the deadly shooting was not immediately known, and it appeared to be an isolated incident with no other injuries, he said. New York Post.
